Skin tags are one of the most common skin concerns we see at Revitalise Skincare Clinic. Whilst they are generally harmless, many individuals can find their appearance unappealing affecting self confidence. Depending on their location, they can cause discomfort and low self confidence – especially when they appear in visible areas or places where clothing or jewellery rub causing irritation. At Revitalise Skincare Clinic, our advanced Medical Practitioner treats skin tags regularly. If you have a skin tag that you’d like removed, read our guide to find out your treatment options.
What are skin tags?
Skin tags, medically known as asrochordons, present as small, soft growths that develop on the skin. They often appear as flesh coloured or slightly darker and typically hang from the skin by a small ‘stalk’. Skin tags most commonly develop in areas where skin rubs together including the neck, underarms, eyelids, groin, under the breasts and thighs. They are extremely common and something most individuals will develop in their lifetime. They are normally harmless however you may seek treatment if they start to cause irritation and discomfort.
What causes skin tags?
Whilst the exact cause for the formation of skin tags is not fully known – there are several factors associated with the onset of them including:
- Friction from skin rubbing together or skin rubbing against clothes
- Ageing – they are extremely common in adults over the age of 40
- Genetics
- Weight gain
- Pregnancy
- Hormonal changes
- Health conditions such as diabetes
Can my skin tags be removed?
The answer is yes – skin tags can be removed. At Revitalise Skincare Clinic, depending on the size and location of your skin tag, we have several different safe and effective treatment options available to remove them.
Treatment options at Revitalise Skincare Clinic
At Revitalise Skincare Clinic, we offer advanced, medical grade treatments designed to remove skin tags with precision whilst protecting the surrounding skin. The most suitable treatment for you will depend on the size, location and number of skin tags present.
Plasma BT –
Plasma is an ionised gas with electrical energy which works throughout the surface of the skin to the epidermal layer. A needle is used to target the plasma very precisely in the area required. This treatment uses a process known as ‘sublimation’ to effectively treat a variety of skin problems as well as triggering collagen renewal. Sublimation is a process that converts the solid lesion directly into gas, it removes the blemish without cutting the skin or transferring excess heat to the surrounding healthy tissue.
Plasma BT provides the most precise and advanced plasma surgical treatments. The precision of the treatment means the surrounding areas of the skin are undamaged. This makes it much less invasive than other plasma devices, such as laser or diathermy. The treatment can be mildly uncomfortable therefore local anaesthetic cream / location is offered prior to your procedure.
The benefits of this treatment include:
- Highly accurate treatment
- Effective for larger skin tags and other skin lesions such as moles
- Minimal downtime
- Scar free procedure
- Non invasive option – no need for sutures

Thermavein –
ThermaVein is a medical grade device which uses a very low current delivered through a needle the width of a hair. It is commonly used for the improvement of thread veins but is also effective at removing skin tags. The treatment works by sealing and destroying the tissue supporting the skin tag, allowing it to dry up and naturally fall away. Thermavein is particularly effective for smaller skin tags around the face, neck and eye area where precision is important. Benefits of this treatment include:
- Precise targeted treatment
- Quick and effective
- Minimal discomfort
- Minimally invasive
- Suitable for small skin tags and delicate areas
Most patients tolerate skin tag removal very well. Both Plasma Surgical and Thermavein treatments create only mild discomfort, often described as a brief stinging sensation. Both treatments are quick procedures and any discomfort resolves rapidly after the treatment is complete.
Skin tag removal consultation
