WHAT EXACTLY IS A LIP FLIP?
A ‘lip flip’ is a quick procedure that lasts about 15-20 minutes. It involves the injection of Botox into your cupid’s bow (in the middle of your upper lip) and into the corners of your mouth.
This temporarily relaxes the muscles around your lip. It causes the part of the upper lip that is inside your mouth to ‘flip’ upward and outward. This gives it a fuller appearance.
This subtle enhancement of the lip shape gives the look of a fuller lip. Rather than adding volume with lip ‘filler’ injections.
If you are looking for an understated refinement of your lip – this is a treatment to consider.
BENEFITS OF BOTOX LIP FLIP TREATMENT:
- A quick, non-invasive and cost-effective alternative to lip fillers
- Will not cause a drastic change to the look of your lips
- A subtle and natural looking enhancement
- Increases lip definition
- Improves lip symmetry
- Little downtime
- Results are seen in a few days.
HOW LONG WILL THE AFFECT LAST?
Lip flip results are temporary and may last around eight to twelve weeks. However, it could last longer on some patients.
The effects wear off quicker than other areas injected with Botox due to the small amount of Botox used. It is also because the lip muscles are very active.
DO LIP FLIPS LOOK NATURAL?
After a week or so of having the treatment, your lips appear slightly larger. The upper lip will have a ‘poutier’ look and is generally a more natural look.
WHAT IS THE MOST ATTRACTIVE LIP SHAPE?
Science has found that the most attractive lip shape has an upper to lower lip ratio of 1:2. Although 60% of people prefer a 1:1 ration where the lips are completely symmetrical and evenly full.
Is a lip flip better than filler?
If you already have a decent amount of volume in your lips but would like to alter the shape, a lip flip might be the better choice. However if you are looking for added volume and longer-lasting results, then lip fillers may be what you’re looking for.
SOME COMMON FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
When will I see the results of my treatment?
Following a lip flip, you should begin to see results within a few days. There should be continued improvement for several days after that. The full effect will be seen after ten to fourteen days of the procedure.
Lip flips are not permanent . Results last around three months and may vary from person to person. Once you start to notice the effects are wearing off, you can maintain your result by having additional Botox injections.
Will my speech be normal after a lip flip?
Your upper lip will begin to feel numb for about four days after your injection. This slight numbness will last two – three months. You should be able to talk, kiss and smile as normal. However, you may dribble your drinks and coffee at first – just until you are accustomed to the effects.
Does kissing affect lip flip?
It is recommended that kissing should be avoided for a minimum of four hours after treatment. However, refrain from passionate kissing for a couple of days after the lip flip Botox treatment if possible.
Lip flip Botox treatment does not affect smiling, it will bring the upper lip outward to create an appearance of more volume.
How do I know if I am a good candidate for Lip Flip?
- Do you have a thinner upper lip and want to add volume in that area without committing to derma fillers?
- Does your upper lip recede, curl or completely disappear when smiling or speaking?
- Do you expose your teeth or gums just a little too much when smiling – i.e. gummy smile?
These are the questions you should ask yourself. If the answer is yes to any of the above – Lip Flip could be the procedure for you.
At Revitalise Skincare Clinic we would always carry out a consultation prior to any treatment being carried out.
How should I prepare for a Lip Flip procedure?
- Three or four days prior to the procedure you should avoid consuming alcohol and blood thinners like Aspirin. These could make swelling worse.
- Clean the area removing make-up and lipstick prior to treatment.
LIP FLIP AFTERCARE
- Following a Lip Flip, you will be able to resume most daily activities. Although refrain from exercise for the rest of the day.
- Limit dental appointments for one week after the treatment.
- Avoid smoking in the days after the procedure to minimise the risk of infection.
- It is advised not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Advil for two days after treatment. Or for one week prior to treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for a couple of hours after having treatment.
- Refrain from rubbing or massaging your lips, which can cause the Botox to spread.
- Try to sleep on your back for a few days so your lips are not pressing against your pillow.
CAN THE PROCEDURE GO WRONG?
As with any procedure you should weigh up the risk.
Lip flips are generally considered a safe, low-risk procedure due to the small amounts of Botox used.
You may experience minor bruising or swelling at the injection site.
Botox mistakes can happen due to poorly placed injections or if you’ve received too much Botulinum toxin, e.g. facial drooping and asymmetrical smile. At Revitalise Skincare Clinic we only use medically trained professionals so you are in the best hands.
Who should not get a lip flip?
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not undergo a lip flip procedure. While there is no evidence to suggest that Botox injections are harmful to a developing fetus or nursing infant, it is generally recommended that women avoid unnecessary procedures during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
BEFORE AND AFTER
It is always helpful to see pictures of real people before and after the procedure – these photographs were taken 2 weeks apart.
