Do you suffer from unsightly Spider /Thread Veins? If the answer is YES – then Revitalise Skincare Clinic can help – please read on to find out more!

Summer is fast approaching, and we all want to look our best in our summer dresses and sandals.  Thread veins can look unsightly but there is a treatment that can help eradicate them.

There is a preconceived notion that this is an older person’s condition – but that’s not so.  They are usually most common in women aged 30-50 and may occur as a during hormone fluctuations of pregnancy or menopause.  They are normally treated due to cosmetic reasons and we’ve had some great results here at Revitalise Skincare Clinic.

What exactly are Spider/Thread Veins?

They are very small clusters of abnormally dilated blood vessels that lie close to the surface of the skin. They appear as thin purple, red, or blue lines and are most often found on the legs but can also occur on other parts of our body, particularly the face They are usually  harmless on their own, however, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t worsen.

The treatment for this condition is called Microsclerotherapy, and is available from Revitalise Skincare Clinics situated in Wiltshire and Bath.

Some of the more common frequently asked questions about this treatment:

What causes them?

They are fairly common with age – so your chances of having spider veins increases as you age.  They can be caused by an array of factors:

  • Hormonal changes – e.g. pregnancy or menopause
  • Sun damage (UV rays from the sun)
  • Sitting for long periods of time or sedentary lifestyle
  • Being overweight can contribute
  • Injury
  • They may be genetic (family history).

How can I be sure I need this treatment?

At Revitalise we would always carry out an initial Consultation prior to any treatment undertaken.  The consultation will consist of a physical examination of the area requiring treatment and a detailed discussion regarding the best treatment for you.  Your consultation will be carried out by our Clinic Practitioner, Arvin Hassanpour, and will take around 15-20 minutes.

I’ve had my consultation and decided I would like the treatment – what should I do next?

We will book an appointment for you in one of our clinics – situated in Wiltshire and Bath (whichever is more convenient).  Once your appointment is confirmed we will email you the relevant consent form for you to complete prior to your treatment being carried out.  This consent form will be saved to your profile on our system.

What happens during Microsclerotherapy treatment?

The injections are performed with you lying down on the treatment bed.  A solution is injected superficially into the vein(s), with a very tiny needle.  This will cause the lining of the vein to become sticky and swell.  Compression is applied to close the vein(s).  The vein will heal closed over a period of time and become absorbed by the body and fade.

Most sessions take about 30 minutes

Will it hurt?

Occasionally, there may be a little sting associated with each injection which lasts a couple of seconds – however, this does vary from person to person.

How should I prepare for Microsclerotherapy treatment?

  • There is no preparation required, although
  • Avoid applying lotion or shaving your legs before sclerotherapy to decrease irritation.

How many sessions will I need?

During your initial consultation, our Practitioner will usually advise the number of sessions required and the cost.  This will vary depending on the quantity and type of veins requiring treatment.

All Revitalise patients are invited back to the Clinic several weeks later for a ‘review’ of the treatment carried out.

Are there any side effects to this treatment?

Microsclerotherapy leads to few minor side effects – but severe reactions are rare.  The common side effects are:

  • Bruising
  • Stinging
  • Mild swelling
  • Itching at the site of injection

All these side effects should subside in a few days. Brown lines or spots can develop near the treatment area as well. These normally disappear within 3 to 6 months, but in some cases may last a little longer.

What result can I expect after treatment?

Results with vary from one patient to another.  Some veins may disappear completely, and some others may only fade.  On completion of a successful treatment there is usually a noticeably visible improvement in the overall appearance.

Should I limit my activity after treatment?

Walking is recommended soon after the procedure – and normal activities can usually be continued after treatment.
